Toronto, July 14, 2017 – The Pride and Remembrance Association, a not-for-profit organization that presents The Pride and Remembrance Run, is pledging $30,000 to the Fife House Huntley Street Project. Fife House is a charitable organization that provides secure and affordable supportive housing and support services for persons living with HIV/AIDS.

The Project – Fife House will assume the original premises of Casey House at 9 Huntley Street, Toronto. A Transitional Housing Program is planned for the building for 20 people living with HIV/AIDS and associated complex health issues who currently reside in the City of Toronto emergency shelter system. For more information, visit www.fifehouse.org.

While much of the operational costs for the project have been pledged, an additional $1.8 M of funding is required to complete the renovation. The City of Toronto has committed $500,000 of Section 37 funds to the project. $300,000 of matching gift from the Fran and Edmund Clarke Foundation has been pledged. Councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam, Ward 27 Centre-Rosedale, has committed an additional $250,000 of matching gift from the City of Toronto, available until July 31, 2017.

The Pledge – The Pride and Remembrance Association is committing $30,000, to be matched by the City of Toronto. Together these funds will renovate/create up to four housing units in the project.

About The Pride and Remembrance Run – In 1996 three gay triathletes founded The Pride and Remembrance Run, an annual 5K fundraising run/ 3K walk, to honor friends who were lost to HIV/AIDS. It is dedicated to partnering the themes of pride and remembrance with community celebration and personal achievement.

Over the past 22 years, the Pride and Remembrance Run has raised over $1.6 M for local LGBTQ+ charities. The funds for this pledge have been made available by way of the tremendous community support of the 2017 Pride and Remembrance Run, which received record donations of over $189,000. Without the support of our participants and fundraisers, their supporters, our sponsors, including BMO Bank of Montreal our Platinum Sponsor, and our volunteers, this pledge would not be possible. For this we are truly grateful.
