Brian Pockar

Two-time Olympic silver medallist Brian Orser and his Silver's Bullets team, named in memory of Canadian ice dance icon Robert McCall, raised a phenomenal $40,419.93 in the 2007 RUN.

This year the Silver's Bullets team (comprised of Skate Canada national team members) is running in honor of the late Brian Pockar. Pockar won the Canadian men's title three times (1978-1980) and claimed the bronze medal at the 1982 World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark. Pockar died from the AIDS virus in April 1992.

Skate Canada is once again throwing its support behind the team. CEO William Thompson, president Benoît Lavoie and Michael Slipchuk, director of High Performance, have signed up as Silver's Bullets team members.

For sure we are going to run, Thompson said. Mike, Benoît and I are all participating and Skate Canada is sponsoring [the team] again. This is one way to honor and remember so many of our alumni who have succumbed to this awful disease. Our alumni is our family and those we have lost are fondly remembered.

LUV UR HAIR HOPE U WIN

Vicki Lau, Kerri Bell, Coleen Asanin, Paula Sousa and Tina Pettigrew RUN in memory of Duarte.

LUV UR HAIR HOPE U WIN

LUV UR HAIR HOPE U WIN was a favorite one-liner of Duarte, who passed away in December, 2005. He would say it to everyone, and it was apparently especially funny when Duarte taught his Portuguese Mother, who couldn't speak English, how to deliver the line with just the right emphasis and attitude.

LUV UR HAIR HOPE U WIN is a team that runs in the Pride and Remembrance Run in memory of Duarte, with Captain Paula Sousa and teammates Vicki Lau, Kerri Bell, Coleen Asanin, and Tina Pettigrew. When you see them in the run this year, be sure to shout out Duarte's favorite line to cheer them on, and help them to keep his memory alive.

WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO

The Pride and Remembrance Run is a 5K fundraising run/walk organized and operated by the philanthropic and athletic-oriented Pride and Remembrance Association.

The Pride and Remembrance Association is a leading not for profit volunteer-run organization established in 1996 dedicated to supporting Toronto's LGBT community. The Pride and Remembrance Run is the only annual athletic event during Toronto's Pride Week, promoting and fostering community spirit, goodwill, volunteerism and sportsmanship in the Canadian LGBT community.

HISTORY OF THE RUN

In 1996 three gay triathletes founded an annual 5K fundraising run/walk coinciding with Toronto's Pride Week called the Pride and Remembrance Run.

The original Run was dedicated to partnering the themes of PRIDE and REMEMBRANCE with community celebration and personal achievement.
