Project: LGBT Youth-Connect
LGBT Youth Connect will create a centralized hub that supports networking, skill-sharing, and collaborations among 2SLGBTQ grassroots youth groups and youth leaders across Ontario.
A dedicated section on the website will further support youth with resources and tools on how to organize community-driven spaces with a focus on building more anti-oppressive, accessible spaces while increasing their understanding of the unique needs of individuals identifying as Trans, Non-binary, Two-Spirit, Asexual, and Intersex.
About LGBT Youth Line
LGBT Youth Line is a Queer, Trans, Two-Spirit youth-led organization that affirms and supports the experiences of youth (29 and under) across Ontario. We do this by:
- Providing anonymous peer support and referrals;
- Training youth to provide support to other youth; and
- Providing resources so youth can make informed decisions.
The first organizing meeting of the Lesbian Gay Bi Youth Line was held in June 1993, and included representatives from other queer youth organizations in Toronto. Through the hard work of volunteers and the support and endorsement of community agencies, including the Kid’s Help Phone, the Children’s Aid Society of Metropolitan Toronto, and Distress Centres Ontario, the phone lines opened on May 2, 1994. Over the next two years, the service grew to provide peer support and information to over 400 young people per month. The organization officially changed its name to Lesbian Gay Bi Trans Youth Line in 2005 to better reflect the community it represents.
